The short version
We collect what we need to run the game and nothing for advertising. Nobody needs an account, neither you nor the person who plays. We don't sell data, and you can ask us to delete yours at any time: dateornodate.com@gmail.com.
Who we are
Gift or No Gift (giftornogift.com) is an independent product run from Spain. Contact: dateornodate.com@gmail.com.
What we collect
If you create a game:
- Your name, the player's first name and your email address.
- The game itself: the gifts in the boxes, the Banker's offers and, if you set one, a PIN (stored only as a secure hash).
- Payment status. Card details are handled entirely by Stripe; we never see or store them.
If you ask us to remind you (the unticked box in the first step): your email, both first names, the occasion if you pick one, your browser's time zone and the unfinished game, so you can finish it on any device. We then send at most four short emails about that game, and stop as soon as you pay, unsubscribe, or the copy is deleted.
If you play a game: the progress of each play (which boxes were opened and the result), so the creator can see it. If the game has a PIN, we keep your IP address for up to 15 minutes after a wrong attempt, only to limit guessing.
Technical data: standard server logs (IP address, browser, time) for security and debugging.
Why we use it
- To run the game and show the creator its results (performing our contract with you).
- To send the emails you expect: your game links (again, if you ask for them on "Find my games"), and results when a play finishes (you can switch these off).
- To remind you about an unfinished game, only if you ticked the box asking for it (your consent, which you can withdraw from any of those emails).
- To process the payment and keep the records the law requires.
- To keep the service secure (legitimate interest).
Who processes it for us
- Stripe: payments.
- Resend: sending emails.
- Our hosting provider, where the database and servers run.
Some of them may process data outside the EU under the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
Cookies, local storage and statistics
We don't use cookies. Your browser stores your unfinished game and your sound setting locally, so you don't lose progress, and, while we test prices, which of two prices you were shown, so it doesn't change between visits. No advertising or cross-site tracking of any kind.
To know how the site is used we count visits with Umami, which we host ourselves: it sets no cookies, doesn't identify you and never sees your games, your email or the private links (we never send it the address of your results page or any link containing a code). It records anonymous, aggregated data such as the page visited, the referring site, the country and the type of device.
How long we keep it
- Unpaid drafts: deleted after 7 days.
- Unfinished games saved for reminders: deleted 14 days after you last edited them, or immediately if you untick the box or unsubscribe. After unsubscribing we keep only your email address on a do-not-email list, so we never write again.
- Paid games and plays: until you ask us to delete them.
- "Find my games" requests (address and a hashed IP, to limit abuse): deleted after 30 days.
- Payment records: as long as tax law requires.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its use, or take it with you. Write to dateornodate.com@gmail.com. If you're unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Spanish data protection authority (AEPD) or the one where you live.
Children
Making and buying a game is for adults. Anyone can play a game they were sent, kids included: players don't create an account and we don't ask them for personal data. We don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and tell everyone with a paid game by email.
